Summary/Abstract: The text analyses the concepts of the director Leon Daniel and the scenographer Mladen Mladenov employed in their production of the play The Poet and the Mountain by Ivan Teofilov, staged at Armed Forces’ Army Theatre (known today as the Bulgarian Army Theatre) in 1964. Upon its premiere, the performance caused a huge controversy and was cancelled by the then-totalitarian government after only seven performances. The research focuses on the creative dialogue between the director and the scenographer which resulted in a creative approach unusual for the Bulgarian theatre at the time towards the new dramaturgical ideas laid down in the text, an approach which could also be considered as an example of an early transition to postmodern aesthetics.
