Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the prose fairy tales by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, specifically focusing on “Šuma Striborova” (Stribor's Forest), "Kako je Potjeh tražio Istinu" (How Potjeh Sought the Truth) and "Sunce djever i Neva Nevičica" (Sun the Groomsman and Neva Nevičica), in terms of their ethical dimensions and symbolism. These prose fairy tales are part of the collection of stories titled "Šuma Striborova," a mandatory reading for sixth-grade students in primary schools across the Republic of Croatia. Students read the assigned work independently. Therefore, this research investigates the extent to which students at Matija Gubec, Magadenovac Elementary School and students Facculty of Educatin comprehend the symbols and narrative ethics of Brlić-Mažuranić, which, within the framework of the contemporary narrative of the 21st century, poses a challenge for students to grasp. The value systems conveyed through these tales serve as a catalyst for devising innovative tools that facilitate the transmission of story content and messages to future generations.
