Summary/Abstract: One of the influential texts in the hadith methodology literature is Ibn Hajar al-Askalânî's Nukḫbat al-Fikar and Nuzhat al-naẓar which is his commentary on this work. When the influence of any work is mentioned, it comes to mind that it should be taught as a common teaching text and that studies such as ik̲h̲tiṣār, telk̲h̲īṣ, ḥās̲h̲iya and sh̲arḥ should be made on the book in question. From this point of view, it will be seen that Ibn Hajar al-Askalani’s Nukḫbat al-Fikar and Nuzhat al-Naẓar, which can be considered as one of his first commentaries, have received increasing attention. The fact that a large number of scholars from different regions and with different interests have studied this work is the most important evidence of the interest in this book. One of such works is a book by Mehmed al-Trabzonī, which is cataloged under the title Ḥāshiyetü Nukḫbat al-Fikar. In this article, the focus will not be on the content of the book, but on the identification of its author. Because in the XII. AH / XVIII. CE century edition of the work, copied by Mehmed al-Muderris in Bursa, there are indications that the identity of the author of the commentary may have been confused. Ustad Mehmed al-Trabzonî, whose name is included as the author of the manuscript, has been confused with Mehmed al-Madanī al-Trabzonî in many studies. This is probably due to the influence of the source books that record it as the book of Mehmed al-Madanī al-Trabzonī. Probably guided by the information in these sources, Ḥāshiyetu Nukḫbat al-Fikar is attributed to Mehmed al-Madanī al-Trabzonī in current academic studies. When the ḥās̲h̲iya is mentioned in academic works, references are made to the biographical information of Mahmed al-Madanī al-Trabzonī or his death date. However, considering the biographical information about al-Mehmed al-Madanī al-Trabzonī, it does not seem possible to attribute this work to him. This article will focus on the identification of the author of this work, which is clearly important in terms of the ḥās̲h̲iya tradition, and its value of it in the literature.
