Summary/Abstract: In the years 1914-1916, Romania remained neutral, but the Black Sea straits being closed, commercial traffic was drastically reduced. The activity of the port of Constanța was also reduced, to the import of coal from Russia and the export of oil and food goods to Turkey and Bulgaria. The import was reduced to a minimum, being composed only of some food goods brought from Turkey. Traffic on the Black Sea took place in difficult conditions, because the Russian war fleet oversaw the departure of ships from the port of Constanţa, many vessels being sunk on the grounds that they were smuggling food. Since the archive of the port of Constanţa from those years was lost during the war, the documentation for this article was made mainly on the basis of the news that appeared in the newspapers of that time.
