Summary/Abstract: Natural and human-caused disasters occur in Turkey, as well as all over the world. Earthquakes are extraordinary events that have the power to affect social life and large geographical areas. The earthquake, which centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023 and was described as the disaster of the century, affected a large geographical area. 11 provinces in Turkey were seriously affected by this earthquake. The aim of this study is to investigate the contributions of the work carried out by local government units in eliminating the effects of the negativities that occurred in the region where the disaster occurred, on the level of development after disasters. In the research, the studies carried out by Malatya Metropolitan Municipality and its affiliated organizations in order to eliminate the negativities that occurred in Malatya after the earthquake on February 6 were discussed. The works carried out by Malatya Metropolitan Municipality were examined in two groups, mainly aimed at the revitalization of vital activities and economic/commercial areas. The aim of the research is to determine the effects of the earthquake on the development level in the regions where earthquake disasters occurred and to examine the effects of the post-disaster activities of the local government units established by the relevant laws in the same region on the development level. The data constituting the purpose of the study were obtained from the analysis reports compiling post-earthquake studies by Malatya Metropolitan Municipality between 06.02.2023 and 31.12.2023 and the earthquake reports made public by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. When the results obtained in the study were evaluated, it was determined that the activities carried out by Malatya Metropolitan Municipality after the earthquake had positive effects on the development of the city and contributed positively to the resumption of basic vital and commercial activities, but the activities carried out were only for commercial and vital activities and projects that would contribute to the re-strengthening of human capital were not developed.
