Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the coordinative conjunction bei (and) and its usage. In Lithuanian, the conjunction bei is not frequent; it performs a secondary function and in some positions is used to replace ir (and), a more usual coordinative conjunction. There has been a recent tendency established that bei is overused, it sometimes occurs in positions usually taken by ir. However, linguists recommend that the conjunction bei should be used to link semantically close concepts and avoided when such link cannot be identified.
