Summary/Abstract: The reception of Antiquity, which forms the foundation of European artistic culture, is inevitable because the artistic legacy of the ancient world is regarded as a significant reference point and a source of inspiration. The "visual code of antiquity" has been employed in various art forms, ranging from architectural complexes and monumental sculptures to paintings and decorative arts.In this paper, I aim to explore the extent of this reception through two case studies within the context of the twentieth century. The first case study focuses on the sculptural icon representing the most proletarian state of the century - The Worker and Kolkhoz Woman. To reinforce the argument regarding the adaptation of the ancient visual code in this sculptural group, I refer to a unique source - The Diaries of Secretary Isaak Yulievich Eigel, who collaborated with the architect Boris Iofan, the creator of the concept and compositional design. The second study examines the influence of ancient symbolism on one of the architectural achievements of interwar classicism - the "M. Eminescu" National Theatre in Chisinau. Here, I aim to showcase the application of classical Roman architectural principles by the Soviet architects of Moldavian SSR.The significance of the perception of antiquity extends beyond the realm of academic exploration. Totalitarian regimes have actively incorporated ancient art as a form of propaganda, utilizing it in various presentations such as the architecture of official buildings, sculptural portraits of leaders, and even environmental design. This highlights the enduring impact and the multifaceted nature of the reception of antiquity in different aspects of society.
