Summary/Abstract: On August 1, 2024, the European Union's Regulation on Artificial Intelligence entered into force and is designed to ensure that AI developed and used in the European Union is trustworthy, with safeguards to protect the fundamental rights. The Regulation also aims to create a harmonized internal market for AI wthin the Union, encouraging the uptake of this technology and creating a favourable environment for innovation and investment. This article summarizes the scope of the Regulation and the institutional aspects at both Union and Member State level, including the competences and responsibilities of the European and national institutions in the field of artificial intelligence.
