Summary/Abstract: Albanian lexicography stars with the year 1635, with Frang Bardhi’s Dictionary, “Dictionarium Latino-Epiroticum”. It can be comparable to developed European countries. An example: The first Latin-English dictionary in Britain was published in 1588; Bardhi’s dictionary was published only 47 afterwards. Until now there have been published more than 500 dictionaries of the Albanian language or with the Albanian language. Their geography is worldwide. Then, this lexicography deserves a history of its own. What could the history of the Albanian lexicography present? National explanatory dictionaries of Albanian (1904, 1954, 1980, etc.); Etymological dictionaries; Terminological dictionaries (there are tens of such dictionaries). Interlingual dictionaries with Albanian are a distinguished part of the lexicographical history of Albanian. As it was mentioned above, they start since 1635. What are these dictionaris according to time periods? Dictionaries and glossaries with popular words and expressions are an important part of the history of the lexicography of Albanian. They are a reliable literary source of data for the National Dictionary of Albanian and the geography and history of words. The Arbërisht (the speech of Albanian settlements in Greece and Southern Italy) includes words surviving in the daily speech of arbëreshes, in their folklore, etc. and contain unexploited literary values for the Albanian standard language. What are the main characteristics of such dictionaries? Which is the history of the File of the Albanian Lexicon? Which is its role in the compilation of the National Albanian Dictionary? Criteria for the evaluation of a certain dictionary could be part and parcel of the history. What could such a history say on “Fjalor i gjuhës së sotme shqipe” (1980) (Dictionary of the Contemporary Albanian Languages)? Lexicography is an international and an intercultural field of study. All the bilingual and terminological dictionaries are international and intercultural. What is the Albanian equivalence? Lexicography is a linguistics, too. The history of the lexicography could say something as to the lexicography influence to linguistics. And what about the school lexicography? And what about the orthographic dictionaries? But the most important issue on the history of the lexicography of the Albanian language could probably be the history of the National Dictionary of Albanian.
