Summary/Abstract: The standard Albanian possesses in its lexicon approx. 430 lexical units from the three Greek periods. These include the Greek words not only from a Greek-language source (direct lexical borrowings), but also and the lexical units from one third language source, transmitted in the Albanian through the Greek language (also direct Greek lexical borrowings). In this study the direct Greek elements are grouped according to lexical-semantic fields. Meanwhile, in the indirect category of borrowings are included Greek lexical units mediated into Albanian through one third language (Latin, Italian, Slavic, Turkish etc). Exactly, the classification of the Greek elements according to their penetration’s paths into the Albanian today’s lexicon and their lexical-semantic fields, is the main purpose of this first study, of the series of studies about the Greek elements in Albanian language. Also integral and indivisible part of this panoramic study is the identification of the Greek elements according to the three great historical periods (ancient, byzantine and new Greek), referring to the etymologies of the Greek elements acquired from the etymological studies in the Albanian field; and finally the identification of the Greek elements’ penetration degree embedded in the Albanian today's lexicon referred to the Albanian Language Dictionary 1980.
