Summary/Abstract: The NIS2 Directive is a significant enhancement in the European Union’s cybersecurity framework, designed to replace the original 2016 NIS Directive. Adopted on November 10, 2022, and effective from January 1, 2023, NIS2 aims to bolster cybersecurity across member states by expanding its scope to include additional sectors and digital services. It imposes rigorous requirements for security measures, incident reporting, and inter-state collaboration to address evolving cyber threats, including those driven by Artificial Intelligence. This article outlines the NIS2 Directive’s objectives and its implications for businesses. It emphasizes the need for improved cybersecurity measures, detailed incident reporting, and enhanced collaboration among member states. Key innovations include mandatory risk-based security measures, rapid incident reporting within 24 hours, and strengthened cooperation networks.
