“The source of strength and happiness.” Praises of book, benefits of reading in the pages of Polish interwar reader’s guides

Summary/Abstract: The article constitutes an analysis and interpretation of the praises of books and the passages indicating the benefits of reading from Polish interwar reader’s guides. The author points out their persuasive character, USER in order to build positive attitudes towards books as well as raising the level of reading culture. In the article the most popular poetic tools used to express a praise are analyzed, including anthropomorphization, pathos, sacralization, hyperbole, styling the book as a wise man, friend or educator as well as the description of the benefits of reading (which forms, educates, perfectionates and comforts).
