Summary/Abstract: Thomas Morley published his treatise Plain and Easy Introduction to the Practical Music in 1597 in London. He organized the text into three main parts, covering the basic knowledge of music, relevant for its practical realization, namely composition and performance. The first part is dedicated to two general topics, both having to certain extend an introductory role: the solmization and the hexachordal system, and the basics of the mensural notation. The text in presence is focused on short fragment of the knowledge of mensural notation and its nature, more precisely note values, tactus, modus, tempus and prolation. The main purpose is to reveal and explain the meanings of the terms and phenomena in the context of Morley’s time and musical practice. All that serves also as introduction to the translation of that fragment into Bulgarian, which is a part of the full translation of the treatise.
