Summary/Abstract: Music is the only art form that expresses the universal, the descending transcendence. The German philosopher Schelling claims that music is ,,the creation of the infinite in the finite” (Schelling 1992, 206). The idea, which is supported by Pithagoras, through the music of spheres and beautifully continued by Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and Hegel. Seen as the archetype and as an exemplary model of a musician, Orpheus tells his tragic tale accompanied by the chords of his lyre. The Lyre which brings together earth and sky, the earth and hell. Following his tragic death, the Gods place his lyre upon the sky, thus forming the Lyre constellation. Orpheus translated, as a creator, the myth of the crickets described by Plato in his dialogue “Phaidros” (Plato, 2016). Just as the crickets, Orpheus dies singing, his head, while floating down the river Hebrun, does not stop singing. The myth of Orpheus is brought into the world of music, thus giving life to a number of masterpieces, which have remained in the history of universal music. The appearance of Opera as a art form is closely tied to Orpheus, as indeed the first opera ever created was “Orpheus” by Monteverdi; followed by Gluk’s Orpehus and the burlesque version of the myth “Orpheus in The Inferno” by Offenbach.
