Summary/Abstract: The essay investigates the relationship between Pier Paolo Pasolini and Romania in relation to film production and the ethnomusical interests of the Italian artist and intellectual. The first part analyses some passages of the screenplay of Oedipus Rex from the point of view of the use made of ancient Romanian folk melodies, probably known during a trip by the director to the Balkan land. Pasolini’s Romanian tour to set Oedipus Rex is linked to the Sopraluoghi in Palestina, a reportage on the Holy Land in preparation for the feature film The Gospel According to Matthew. This work by Pasolini is the inspiration for a film by filmmaker, born in Timişoara, Andrei Ujică, which is discussed in the second part of the paper.
