Summary/Abstract: "Judaism has had a very special relationship with Jewish politics, not only during antic statehood and the almost two thousand years of Exile, but also during modern statehood. Even though the later period has not been characterized by either a generally accepted or a direct and unequivocal impact on society, as it was the case before, religion has been a major factor of policy-shaping in modern Israel. It constrained attitudes and decision-making on key issues of the Arab-Israeli conflict, such as the policies concerning the occupied territories, the settlements, the Palestinian problem and the peace process."[...]
