Summary/Abstract: The article aims at drawing attention to popular Christianity among Romanians and Albanians, mainly to the role of saints in the popular calendar. Both cultures display traditional faith in the saints protecting against wild beasts (e.g. wolves, bears) within the pastoral environment and in both cultures women play a key role when it comes to preserving this tradition. The article provides a set of similar or identical beliefs in Romanian and Albanian folklore regarding the wolf and certain protecting saints (the same to both peoples), and also highlights lexical similarities in the two languages concerned.
