Summary/Abstract: Lévi-Strauss, one of the most influential social scientists of the twentieth century social sciences, has been overlooked, ignored, or prevented from being seen in Turkey for many years, despite late translations and works on him. Structural anthropology has not been put into use as a full-fledged theory and has rarely found its place as an incidental theoretical approach. Among these rare references and utilizations, Şerif Mardin and Sencer Divitçioğlu represent an exceptional position in Turkey in applying Lévi-Strauss’ concepts to a specific problem area and using structural anthropology to study a social phenomenon. This article aims to show how and in what ways these two social scientists were influenced by Lévi-Strauss. The relationship that Mardin and Divitçioğlu established with structural anthropology is significant not only in terms of pointing out the explanatory and systematizing capacity of the theory and its unexplored potential for Turkish social sciences, but it is also critical in terms of revealing the aspects that remain “invisible” or “incomprehensible” in their own theoretical approaches.
