Summary/Abstract: As early as the Middle Ages, an unflattering opinion was formed in Bohemia about the reign of King Vladislav II (1140-1172), which was reflected in later Czech historiography. The article juxtaposes the news of contemporary chroniclers (Vincent of Prague and Joannes Kinnamos) about two triumphs of Vladislav: the battle of Milan in 1158 and the expedition to Hungary in 1164. Although it is clear from the narratives of both authors that the expedition to Hungary was as glorious for the Bohemian king as the victory at Milan, Czech historiography places much more importance on the Italian expedition, treating the Milanese triumph more as a credit to the Bohemians than to Vladislav himself.
