Summary/Abstract: The first part of the article contains reflections concerning the rise of and further development of “project-based teaching”. The author emphasizes those elements thereof which, in compliance with the main assumptions of core curriculum reform in Polish schools, develop in students active and creative attitudes, desirable in the contemporary society. Teachers of all subjects – Polish literature and culture included – face the task of facilitating that educational situation. Project-based teaching used in Polish literature and culture lessons gives tremendous opportunities of achieving highly interesting outcomes, which stem from the specificity of the content and values that fill these classes. Also, owing to the dynamism and creative character of projects, one can expect results that are unusually original and presented in inventive way. The second part of the article includes a description of a series of classes which were created as a result of project-based teaching. The author shows what the implementation of particular elements of the method looked like, how students gave their work more individual quality by giving an emphasis to some elements and resigning from others. In the summary, by showing interdisciplinary character of the project, the author names the scope of knowledge and skills acquired by students.
