The Idol or the Lantern: The Problem of Authority in Two Pieces of The Analogs

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes two songs by the punk band The Analogs: Idole and Latarnia. The analysis is carried out in an educational context. The authors located their inquiry within the framework of public pedagogies, assuming that the space of popular culture is important for the formation of a person. Idols and Latarnia deal with the topic of authority. The authors wonder what vision of authority is promoted in the mentioned works. By making the work close to the text and referring to the cultural tradition in which the works were written. They then use the work of Lech Witkowski to embed reflection in the pedagogical field. The authors point out that, firstly, the idol is rejected as a false form of authority; secondly, they indicate the need to work on yourself - the song Latarnia emphasizes the importance of independence. The Lighthouse as a form of authority is embedded in the real achievements of a given individual, his or her art of life. Lighthouse does not appear as an idol, but rather as someone that another entity has or can become. The vision of authority that emerges from the analyzed texts draws from anarchist traditions. This vision is an interesting proposition that goes beyond the affirmation or rejection of authorities, where authority is not associated with obedience, but supports the autonomy and self-reliance of the individual, encouraging him to have the courage to be among the storms and steadfastly fight through the storms.
