Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the implications of Emperor Franz Joseph's visit to Romania in September1896. The study presents the details of the organization of the visit, the protocol, analyzes the key moments and implications for the relations between the two states. In such moments, each gesture has its importance and symbolism. The visit was accompanied by all the ceremonies that were required at that time, dinners, military parades, the handing over of decorations. The oficial part of the emperor's visit took place in the capital and its relaxing part in Sinaia. The reception given in honor of Franz Joseph was so cordial that it created suspicion among foreign diplomats, who believed that between Romania and Austria-Hungary either an alliance treaty or a military convention was being signed
