Summary/Abstract: The article aims at presenting the history of one of the branches of the counts Zamoyski’s family (coat of arms Jelita), which in the years 1835-1944 owned the estates of Podzamcze, Maciejowice and Trzebień in the Garwolin county. Characterising the lot of the family, the author focuses on the presentation of the accomplishments of its three most outstanding representatives: Stanisław Kostka the younger (1820-1889), Andrzej Przemysław (1853-1927), and Jan Kanty (1900-1961). They demonstrated high economic activity which went beyond the limits of both the family nest and the county. The sign of this was for instance the matter of purchasing an estate in Hungarian Spisz by Andrzej Przemysław. The history of the family also served as an illustration of the transformation of the social status in the 19th and 20th centuries, and the ability to adapt oneself to the conditions of the contemporaneous transformations taking place in the capitalist relations (through e.g. marriage strategies leading to strengthening their influential position in Polish and European aristocratic society).
