Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the phenomenon of so-called tourist vandalism. It is a phenomenon that has so far remained on the margins of mainstream criminological considerations of crime and other pathological behaviour targeted at cultural and natural heritage. The study also deals with broader aspects of the phenomenon of vandalism, viewed from historical and contemporary perspectives. Particularly those manifestations of the phenomenon of vandalism identified with tourism and tourism are presented against this background. The article aims to present the genesis of the phenomenon of tourism vandalism, its causes (aetiology), its historical and contemporary manifestations (phenomenology) and the possibilities of prevention (prophylaxis). A synthesis and analysis of previous doctrinal proposals related to the definition of the discussed phenomenon was also made. As a result, the author’s definition of tourism vandalism was proposed. The authors believe that given the universality of the phenomenon of tourism vandalism and, above all, its social harmfulness, it is reasonable to opt for a broad definition of it. Such an approach makes it possible to notice all forms of destruction of cultural and natural heritage and to implement adequate to the threat and effective preventive measures.
