Summary/Abstract: Marcus Bonifili (also known as Bonfil or Bonfili) from Catalonia is not a par-ticularly well-known figure. Preserved sources (especially letters and sermons) present him as a passionate preacher and an extremely effective rhetorician. He was a professor of theology and a priest in Girona, Perpignan, and Barcelona. In the years 1440-1447 he was the ambassador of the Council of Basel in Poland, and in the years 1452-1453 he was in the service of Cardinal Antoni Cerdà i Lloscos. The sermons are included in several copies (in Olomouc, Oxford, Brunswick, Augsburg, Wrocław, Erlangen-Nürnberg, and Budapest) and in the manuscript written by Marcus himself (the codex from Barcelona). The article consists of four parts. The first part discusses those elements of Marcus Bonifili’s biography that were reconstructed based on printed and handwritten sources. The second part is related to Marcus’s activities at the Council of Basel. The third part contains an analysis of Bonifili’s actions as a representative and ambassador of the Council of Basel in Poland between 1440-1447. In the last part, details of Bonifili’s stay in Krakow between 1444-1450 and his initiatives on behalf of Poles in Rome between 1450-1453 are discussed. In this section, particular attention is paid to Marcus’s relationship with several prominent representatives of the Krakow University and clergy. Therefore, the main aim of the paper is to reconstruct Bonifili’s biography, based on Basel and Polish documents, and to indicate his multi-faceted ties with the intellectual elite and higher clergy of late-medieval Poland, including Stanisław Sobniowski, Jan Elgot, Mikołaj Spicymir, Jan of Dąbrówka, Jan Długosz, and Zbigniew Oleśnicki.
