Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we discuss the play ''The Master and Margarita'', directed by Aleksandar Saša Petrović, staged at the National Theatre in Belgrade in 1982, which was withdrawn from the repertoire forty years ago (1983), after two seasons of performance. The paper shows why and how the director and author of the dramatization approached the creation of this play, shedding light on the conditions of its origin and discontinuation within the cultural-historical context.
