Summary/Abstract: The article aims to present the typology of agriculture in an overview and systematization approach. The paper describes theoretical approaches, with particular emphasis on the concept of J. Kostrowicki. The article defines the objectives for which the typology of agriculture is carried out, de-fines its basic concepts, and introduces a distinction between spatial and aspatial approaches. Using the comparative analysis method, the 34 empirical studies carried out by Polish and foreign authors, both for agriculture Polish and for other countries, including non-European ones, were divided into two sets. The first collection (25 papers) consisted of those based on J. Kostrowicki’s concept, while the others (9 articles) loosely referred to or did not use it. The chronological review of the research showed that the operationalization of J. Kostrowicki’s approach was characterized by an evolution in terms of the number of diagnostic features used and the methods of delimitation of types of agricul-ture. On the other hand, in the second group of analyzed papers, special attention was paid to the regularities of the applied methods of agricultural typology. The summary identifies the most critical problems that arise when applying the methods of agricul-tural typology. Attention was drawn to the greater possibilities of studying typologies than in the past due to the development of computational methods and the increase in the availability of data. In the overall assessment of the typology methods, the greater usefulness of modern approaches, resulting from the analysis carried out earlier, was indicated. The usefulness of typological research from the cognitive and application point of view was also emphasized.
