Orthodox Hymnography as a Way of Contextualizing and Inculturating the Faith

Summary/Abstract: The adoption of local melodic formulas in the local Orthodox worship and their adaptation to the liturgical texts play an important didactic role in the new pastoral reality, in which a large number of believers no longer relate to the established hymnody in the sameway as the Christians did at the beginning of the Church. In the new context, the archaic language and poetic imagery, together with their complex doctrinal and symbolic content, pose a challenge to the full understanding of Orthodox hymnody.
