Summary/Abstract: The article presents the energy policy of the European Union (EU) in light of its latest strategy, called the European Green Deal. The article is of particular importance to answer two main questions:What was the importance of two energy packages in the EU energy policy, i.e., the fourth and fifth packages? The fourth package was adopted in June 2019; the fifth package – “Ready for 55” – was published in 2021 and aimed to align the EU’s energy targets with the new European climate targets for 2030 and 2050.What are the main conclusions from the presented tables and graphs regarding carbon dioxide emissions in European Union countries from 2012 to 2021? Additionally, what insights can be drawn regarding changes in electricity prices for household and non‑household consumers in euros per 100 kilowatt‑hour, as well as gross electricity production (in million tonnes of oil equivalent) in the analyzed years for all EU Member States?
