Summary/Abstract: The charismatic figure of Ovidiu Cotrus comes out from the pages of his now published "Dialogues" (book published by Editura Cartea Românească - Bucureşti, 1999). Originally meant to reach their purpose in a Socratic manner, Cotrus refused to write them down as he thought spoken words had greater impact, the Dialogues finally were put to paper and gathered in a book. Like almost all Romanian intellectuals of that time Cotrus was mistreated by the communist regime and although this affected his health seriously he tried to overcome the wrongs done to him by a tremendous joy of life. This would impress all his companions and colleagues who would see him as a strong character and admire his force. For a short period of time he was allowed to travel abroad and met a lot of writers in the West, whom he brought into the pages of some magazines he would write for and also made pertinent analyses on their works.
