Summary/Abstract: The vocal technique of bel canto Bel canto as a way of singing originated in Italy in the 17th century. Nowadays it is spread all over the world as a dominant style of classical vocalism. It has its specific features in terms of vocal technique, expression and musical facets. The bel canto style of singing is distinct, yet one needs to consider the various environments in which it is executed. While its basic principles remain the same, there can be variations in performance due to different circumstances, such as different languages, cultures, and eras. I think that diversity of physiological types and psychological factors may also bring changes to the vocal technique. For example, bel canto in Italy may slightly differ from the one in France or Germany. Moreover, the style of bel canto has evolved over time, and different composers and performers may have their own interpretations of it. However, the fundamental principles of bel canto singing, such as the use of a clear and flexible voice, precise intonation, and expressive phrasing, remain consistent across the different variations of the style.
