Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on names of places from the area of the contemporary Garwolin County. The aim of the work is to describe the origin and word-formation structure of the collected toponymic material, considering oikonyms related directly or indirectly semantically to the world of animals and plants. Out of the 569 collected oikonyms from the Garwolin County area, 152 are oikonyms that refer to plants or animals. The core of the article is the semantic-structural description of the studied material according to the classification created by Witold Taszycki and modified by Władysław Makarski. In the gathered naming material, most names are related to plants (76% of the total). Within this category, the largest semantic group consists of odarboral onyms inspired by poplars, birches, hornbeams, and oaks. Names related to animals, representing a significantly smaller proportion (24% of the total), semantically pertain to aquatic animals and wolves. The conclusion of the article provides a synthesis of the obtained results, illustrating the place of animal and plant-related local names in the toponymic landscape of Garwolin County.
