Summary/Abstract: This article is intended as a polemic with Kacper Pobłocki’s theses contained in his text “How Poles became white”, which was published in the collective volume Halka/Haiti. 18°48’05”N 72°23’01”W. This volume accompanied the art project of the same title, which was presented in the Polish pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale. Bobako critically analyses Pobłocki’s attempt to super- impose the categories of “black” and “white” on the relationship between serfs and the nobility and shows the problematic implications of such a procedure, which were not considered by the author. She places her analysis in the context of contemporary “whiteness studies”.
