Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to understand whether and to what extent Knowledge Management practices are used in financial institutions in Kosovo, as well as the motives and effects of their use. Design/methodology/approach: From OECD study questionnaire an adapted questionnaire is developed knowledge management practices, motives and effects of their use, which was distributed to financial institutions listed on the Central Bank of Kosovo. Findings: The institutionalization of knowledge management depends on the size of financial institutions, expressed in number of employees. Responsibility for the knowledge management falls on senior management or human resource management, in conditions where no financial institution has a knowledge management unit. Banks use more practices than other types of businesses, as well as companies with foreign capital more than those with internal capital. Research limitations/implications: The response rate from financial institutions is under expectations, which makes the samble small in order to draw inviolable conclusions of the class of financial institutions. Is not comparable to the OECD study, because it focuses on one business sector. Practical implications: Paper aims to show how much are knowledge management practices used by financial institutions in Kosovo, reasons for using themand their effects on organizational performance. Originality/value: It constitutes a reproduction of the OECD study to observe the expansion of knowledge management in the financial industry, it being the most computerized and modernized in Kosovo. The value of the article is that it constitutes the first attempt to bring study in field of knowledge management in Kosovo.
