Summary/Abstract: Structure forming in architecture is a fundamental and timeless issue of architectural theory and practice. Structure forming role of light is known since hoary antiquity, as significant architectural masterworks of all eras are consistent with the location and orientation, the daily and annual conditional motion of the sun with the brightness of its rays. The paper seeks to accord more attention to the role of light, which is still insufficiently controlled means of expression, crucial to the plastic development of architectural forms. The issue is especially topical with the current requirements for the architects to conform the forms of the building to energy efficiency standards so that to use solar radiation to the full. The paper is in line with the task of the same title under the plan of research work at the Institute of Art Studies on the work of twentieth-century renowned Bulgarian architects in view of the significance of light in their work.
