Summary/Abstract: This article describes the history and functioning of the Hradčany dormitory for poor university students in Prague, which functioned in 1919–1949. First introduced is the foundation of this dormitory and of the association that administered it. Then the attention turns to student self-governance, which formed one of the organs of the association. In 1927, there arose a conflict between the student administration and curators of the founding association, which led to the foundation of a new dormitory administered solely by students. The conclusion then describes a gradual loss of power of the student administration: after 1945, its powers were gradually transferred to the National Administration of Student Property. In 1949, the dormitory finally ceased to exist in its original form.
