Summary/Abstract: The essential properties of the concept of «knowledge» as a sociocultural paradox are defined. The correlation between the concepts of «knowledge» and «information» is revealed. The role of fundamental and applied science in enhancing the knowledge potential of humanity is clarified. The value potential of knowledge in the modern stage of social development is analyzed. The significance of knowledge in ensuring the functioning of the spiritual and informational security system of the state is substantiated.
