ARBITRATION EXCAVATIONS

Summary/Abstract: The article makes a short review of the history of arbitration from Antiquity till nowadays. For Antiquity and for Middle Ages the author refers to Wolfram Buchwitz’s book Schiedsverfahrensrecht in Antike und Mittelalter, Bohlau Verlag (2020) which is frequently quoted. Also the development of arbitration in Bulgaria from the late 19th century till today has been reviewed with a recommendation for expansion of its application. An interesting accent has been put on the Bulgarian law of arbitration between 1892 and 1944 where disputes were to be decided by arbitrators according to their conscience regardless of the acting law.
