Summary/Abstract: The memory of the fallen heroes for the people and country, after the Independence War of 1877- 1878, has been honoured and remembered in the collective mindset, as well as by local and county authorities through monuments in Dâmbovița County, monuments meant to commemorate their ultimate sacrifice. In Dâmbovița County, all the heroes who lost their lives on the battlefield in the struggles for the state independence of Romania in 1877-1878 have their names inscribed for eternity on the stones of 44 monuments, totalling 234 deaths, whose names are scattered on all those monuments including both heroes from the National Reunification War (1916-1919) and the Second World War (1939-1945). It's worth mentioning that in Dâmbovița County, four monuments were exclusively made for the fallen heroes on the battlefields of the Independence War, in the localities: Corbii Mari-Ungureni, Morteni, Potlogi, and Vișina. Local authorities in certain villages of Dâmbovița, considering they did not have the material means to erect such monuments in memory of those who heroically fell in duty for the country in the Independence War of 1877-1878, decided to inscribe the names of these heroes on the porch or inscription of the church in their respective locality, with the purpose of honouring and keeping alive the memory of those who, through their ultimate sacrifice, contributed to the battlefield victory and the state independence of Romania.
