Summary/Abstract: On the basis of the sources containing the information on migrations to the territory of present-day Croatia, the author comes to the conclusion, that the name Sklavi(ni) referred basically to polyethnic immigrants to the Balkans. Having summarized the results of anthropological and genetic researches, the author concludes that the modern Croats are for the most part the descendants of the indigenous population of the Balkans. Tha author argues that the Croatian people has been formed as a new ethnic community in the Balkans by the ethnic merging and social interaction of the warrior units of the Gotho-Selavins coming from the north of Europe, with the numerous indigenous population found in that area.
