Summary/Abstract: References to the political situation in Poland appeared in printed dedications contained in books published in the nineteenth century. In this way, successive independence uprisings were remembered and their participants and conspiracies against the invaders commemorated. Many books with such dedications appeared in the works of writers in exile, who were forced to leave Poland because of their political activity. Particularly interesting are the dedications which recall the names of less well-known people, about whom historical studies and biographical dictionaries have no information. It should also be noted that the references in question affirm the relationship between the book and the culture of the era in which it appeared.
