CHARACTERS AND TYPES OF LEGGED BLAGOJES IN SLOBODAN SELENIĆ’S NOVEL THE MEMOIRS OF PERA THE CRIPPLE

Summary/Abstract: Slobodan Selenić’s first novel, The Memoirs of Pera the Cripple (1968), has been present in the domestic reader’s consciousness and publishing practice for more than half a century, but its many masterful aspects have not been remotely expertly reviewed and adequately researched. Using the example of the protagonist and episodicist with the emblematic name Blagoje, in this work, we give a section of the writer’s extraordinarily successful willful characterization, which carries much more than imagology in practice, giving us as a result a multiplied and multileveled character who, in the world of legged ones, exceeds his meticulously designed, frightened and unsuccessful, paths to tranquility, happiness and truth.
