Summary/Abstract: The article includes a discussion of some of the theses contained in the book “Sophistic and policy” by C. Mielczarski, who treats the sophistic movement as a movement that was a precursor to modernity, democracy, liberalism, and contemporary social practice. The aim of the article is thus to show that Sophistic reflection forms a part of the Greek political culture which, in dialectical unity with Platonism, constitutes the basis of European intellectual formation. But the sophistic precursor to the modern change of meaning in the political sphere seems to be secondary. Furthermore, the elimination of philosophical foundations with a view to some social reflections causes a loss of meaning to the transmission of both sophistic and Platonic thought. The author discusses these questions by making the assumption that the weight of the sophistic movement contains a confirmation of the view that classic philosophy, with its supposition of the absoute truth, is no longer relevant within the democratic state of law and the modern model of education.
