Summary/Abstract: Very little is still known of the process of Oxendio Virziresco’s (1654- 1715) appointment as an Armenian Catholic Bishop in Transylvania (Ardeal, Erdély, Siebenbürgen) in the late 17th century. Therefore, in this article, I have also attempted to present the background of this problem relying upon the partly discovered and undiscovered sources as well as analysing critically a few of secondary literature. Furthermore, with regards to documents, the backbone of this present study has been primarily constituted upon the basis of sources being preserved in the archives at the Apostolic Holy See in Rome, and the Vatican City, which contains detailed information, surveys, narrations, and letters upon Oxendio Virziresco’s appointment as an Armenian Bishop. At the same time, generally, the main problem in researching the church-history of the Armenians in Transylvania is that the majority of the manuscript documents is preserved in foreign archives in Italy, the Vatican as well as in Armenia, and not in Romania or in Hungary
