Summary/Abstract: This article capitalizes the documentation existed at the National Archives with regard to the evacuation of the regional direction at Chișinău of the State Archives in Romania, which took place in February-March and the beginning of May 1944, according to a thorough plan designed by its director, Leon T. Boga, and then the return of the Bessarabian archives to the Soviet Socialist Republic of Moldova, set up in the period between 1945 and 1954. The study emphasizes the fact that in 1944 the whole Bessarabian historical archive and the documents issued by the institutions of the Romanian administration in Bessarabia were moved in Romania and dispersed to various branches of the State Archives or in administrative, economic, cultural-educational institutions and organizations or even to individuals and just a part of them was brough back to Chișinău in 1954-1954. The article deals with this topic by relying on additional information excerpted from DGAS (General Direction of the State Archives) fonds and has in intention to clarify the circumstances of the vents in 1944-1954. In addition, it indends to initiate a honest debate over the opportunity and consequences if the dislocation of the archives, taking into consideration the inalienable feature of the property right, the archival principes and the professional deontology. Around 240 Bessarabian fonds and collections are preserved todat in the administration Ilfov County Office of the National Archives, but their greatest number has no modern inventories rigorously prepared forewords, while the research of them is limited by the stipulations of the Law of National Archives no 16/1996, Appendix no 6. Henceforth, last but not least, the main purpose of the study aims at signaling of the existence in Romania of several main fonds with historical value originated in Bessarabia. The goal is the facilitate the access to them, eventually in the context of common projects initiated between the National Archives of Romania and the National Agency of the Archives of the Republic of Moldova.
