Summary/Abstract: The chroniclers of the court of the lords of Padua, Nicoletto d’Alessio and Galeazzo Gatari provide important information on the alliance between Francesco I da Carrara (called Francesco il Vecchio) and Louis I (the Great) of Hungary against Venice during the so-called Border War (1372–1373). On the basis of these accounts, my study aims to discuss two issues related to Louis’s involvement in the conflict. First, I illustrate with some examples how diplomatic relations between Francesco da Carrarara and the king of Hungary are described in the two chronicles. The second part of the analysis gives a short overview of the war incidents and the presence of the Hungarian armies in Italy.
