Summary/Abstract: The author of the study employs the perspective of Czech structural aesthetics to comment on Jürgen Habermas’ s critique of Jacques Derrida’ s deconstruction. Following Roman Jakobson, Habermas relies on a hierarchical model of linguistic functions and criticizes Derrida’ s over-generalization of the poetic functionto all types of discourses. Habermas evaluates this as Derrida’ s attempt to level the boundaries and distinctions between philosophy and literature. The study points out the inadequacy of Habermas’ s critique and shows that Derrida’ s approach corresponds to the contamination model of functions originally proposed by Jan Mukařovský.
