VALUING FREEDOM AND EQUALITY IN FINLAND'S SCHOOL SYSTEM

Summary/Abstract: This mini-essay describes the way in which Finland has somehow managed to evade ambitious globalisation policies (policies which through various stratagems aim to turn the act of education into a "universal panacea") and enhance the fundamental principles of freedom and equality within their own school system. This is a subject that calls for reflection on the current education systems, given not only their static rigidity but also the fact that, at least from the point of view of the principles mentioned, they have not made any notable progress.
