Magic Numbers in the Music of Sofia Gubaidulina

Summary/Abstract: Sofia Gubaidulina’s compositions are characterised by a special kind of symbolism and constructivism both based on numbers, i.e. mathematical proportions. In almost all her works so-called numerical plots can be detected. The proportions of the Fibonacci series provide a basis for many of her works composed since the beginning of the 1980s. In more recent times she used some rows derivating from the Fibonacci series, in particular the Lucas sequence.
