Summary/Abstract: Author tries to re-examine Marcuse’s essay Repressive tolerance in the context of Marcuse’s works and genealogy of thought. First, author addresses critique and tries to demonstrate its fallacy by showing critics’ unfamiliarity with Marcuse’s early writings. Author then tries to demonstrate the continuity between Repressive tolerance and Marcuse’s early writings such as “concrete philosophy” and critical theory. Lastly, author tries to demonstrate twofold importance of the essay: first in an attempt of avoiding fascism and secondly, as Marcuse’s indication toward new society.
